Lifeline

I’m knitting a lace scarf for one of my friends for her birthday this month. If you knit — especially if you’ve ever knit lace — then you probably know that if you mess up on a lacework pattern, it’s pretty difficult to go back and fix your mistakes. Suffice it to say, I had more than my share of mistakes on this scarf and have had to start over from scratch several times.

Cue the lifeline.

In my picture it’s the purple yarn running through the scarf and it’s there so in case I mess up again, rather than having to rip the entire thing and start from scratch I only need to rip back to where the purple yarn is holding my stitches. I don’t know why I resisted it so much before — it only takes a tiny bit of time to run it through my knitting, but knowing I don’t have to start from scratch each time is such a huge relief. Naturally, I haven’t made a mistake since I started using the lifeline but I’ve still got half a scarf to finish — still plenty of room for error.

I saw a link on Photojojo earlier this week that took me to a really cool project this one woman did in Spain in which she took a series of photos where you can make out the letters of the alphabet in the negative space formed by the sky between buildings. It was very cool and was a new twist (for me) on the idea of forming the alphabet through pictures. So I was out and about in Central the other day and I just happened to look up and I saw a big ‘W’ and it made me think of her project. I’ve got a long way to go if I’m going to do anything like she did, but at least it’s a start:

Getting back into the habit of lugging my camera with me everywhere and then uploading the pictures to my computer daily is taking a bit more time than I originally thought. Anyway, here is one of Noah’s turtles — Mr. Brown — who he insisted on taking out of his tank this day and racing against one of his walking dinosaurs.

Redecorating

Starting Over

If my blog was a child, then someone would’ve called CPS ages ago, I would’ve had my blog confiscated, put into protective custody and I would be locked up right now. Thankfully, it’s just a little old website so I can neglect it as much as I like. I haven’t really been slacking though — I’ve been taking pictures every day, but somewhere around November it just became a gigantic hassle to download pictures, upload them onto flickr and then write about them. That said, what better time to start over than with the start of a new year? And so, along with a bunch of other resolutions, I’m starting up my 365 blog again. And speaking of resolutions, if you like photography but don’t subscribe to Photojojo (in which case I would say to you, “Well, what are you waiting for?!!”), in their latest newsletter they challenge everyone to choose a photography resolution for the new year and they even provide an awesome list of suggestions to get the ball rolling. It’s good inspiration for anyone who needs it and you can find their list here.

Anyway, with that said, here are my pictures from today. Noah — totally wiped — after an apparently tiring day of going to the movie theater:

Fake Christmas Tree

Mark and I picked up a fake Christmas tree with fiber optic light branches. It’s pretty cool — especially in the dark — and so much fun take pictures of. This is me zooming out quickly while taking a picture with the shutter speed set at 5/8″.
